In oak Class we want you to grow your knowledge and stand as proud as a 'mighty oak'.
Mrs Box and Miss Rivera are your class teachers and we are supported by Mrs Fletcher and Mrs Hussey. On Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons you will be taught by Mrs Fletcher and Mrs Hussey together.
On Wednesday mornings we have yoga with Yoga Jo and on Friday afternoons we have golden time and our much anticipated raffle.
In our class any great work or great behaviour is rewarded with team points or raffle tickets. Every Friday we pick three tickets and those people chosen win a prize from our very exciting and very well stocked raffle box! During lockdown we will still do the raffle on our Friday zoom and any winners not in school will be kept aside - once we are all back together you can pick your prize!
What will we be learning about this half term?
This half term we are learning all about World War Two (WWII) and the events that led up to it, including how it impacted Britain and the wider world. We will also be using the topic to learn about globes, atlases and maps and how these work. In science we will be learning about humans and how they develop as they age. In literacy we will be looking at debate and argument texts along with reading books about WWII. We will also be looking at multiplication, division and fractions in maths! It's going to be a busy half term with plenty of new things to learn about and discover.
Curriculum Overview for Parents and Pupils
We will learn spelling patterns each week in class through our spelling lessons and any spellings that you need to practise some more will be sent home with you in your journal! You will find the list of statutory spellings below that your year group needs to learn too!
In Oak class we use Times Tables rockstars to practise our timestables. Each half term we will test your timestables knowledge and TT Rockstars will work out which ones you need to practise next! You can practise as much as you like at home on this - your login is on your journal - but you have to do at least 20 minutes a week at home on it!
You will have a banded colour reading book, at school an adult will hear you read this book at least once a week and will write this in your journal. You should read at least four times a week for ten minutes each time at home. You will have one book for home and one book for school. You can bring your home reading book back on a Monday when you finish it and change it! You can also access Reading Planet from home which has a great amount of reading books at the level that is correct for you.
Seesaw is our online learning platform. Here you will find lessons posted daily for guided reading, maths, literacy and topic. We will post spellings weekly. All work you do will be checked by an adult and all maths and literacy will be marked. If we think you need a little extra help or you ask for some help an adult will zoom with you to move your learning on!
PE - on Mondays and Tuesdays - don't worry about kit for now. I will let you know when we want you to start getting changed for PE again!
Pencil Cases- please don't bring a pencil case for now - I will let you know when you can!
Journals- we will keep these in school for now but will use them to record reading books and any other information we need too!
