Welcome to Rowan Class - Year 2/3!
This half term we will be learning all about Boudica and the impact of the Roman Empire on Britain. Due to the partial school closures last year we will be having a big focus for the first half term on maths, literacy and reading but we will catch up with our topic learning through literacy too.
You will receive the list of statutory spellings for your year group. These are for you to learn throughout the course of the year. We will learn spelling patterns each week in class through our spelling lessons and any spellings that you need to practise some more will be posted on the website each week! See the statutory spelling lists for each year group at the bottom of the page if you would like to do any additional spelling with your child/ren.
In Rowan Class we use Times Tables Rockstars to practise our times tables. Each half term we will test your times tables knowledge and TT Rockstars will work out which ones you need to practise next! You can practise as much as you like at home on this - your login is on your journal - but you have to do at least 20 minutes a week at home on it!
You will have a colour-banded reading book. At school, an adult will hear you read this book at least once a week and will record this in your journal. At the moment, books will only be sent home on a Friday so that you can read over the weekend and they must be returned on a Monday. This means that we can quarantine the books for 72 hours, ready to send them home again the following Friday. You should read each day over the weekend. At the moment you can't take your journal home because of Covid-19, but once you can you should record in your journal each time you read - just the date, title and pages you read. You must make sure that you bring your book back on a Monday; it cannot be returned on any other day.
PE is on Mondays & Fridays. Please make sure that you have the right kit for the weather and come to school wearing it instead of your usual school uniform! You will also have yoga on a Wednesday, but you do not need to come to school in your PE kit for this.
Pencil Cases - due to Covid-19 we will provide you with a pencil case of all the things you will need in class! Please do not bring any pens, pencils, rubbers etc. in from home.
Journals - due to Covid-19 you cannot take these home at the moment.
